At the annual banquet of the Westfield Fire Department, Firefighter JONATHAN SCHULTES was named Firefighter Of The Year. In less than two years, in addition to responding to a high percentage of emergency calls and department training drills, Jonathan distinguished himself by successfully earning his Firefighter I and II certification and becoming a state certified Emergency Medical Technician. Combined Jonathan attended over 450 hours of training. His dedication to the department and to his community were recognized by the department chiefs and officers who bestowed this honor upon him.
Each year the department members gather for a banquet during which awards are presented to members who make extraordinary contributions during the year. This year four unit citations were awarded to members for their teamwork and execution of skills at four different challenging calls, one of which was a motor vehicle crash involving three tractor trailers, one chemical tanker and twenty-six cars with over thirty injuries during a snow and ice storm on Interstate 91.
